From hobby to business - Handcrafted Notebooks have it covered.

Creator of Hancrafted Notebooks, Nicky Rogers will be at our House of Fraser event in Croydon this July. She's kindly written a blog for us, explaining how she turned a hobby into a successful small business.

With spare time on my hands in 2012, my eldest daughter, who was studying for an Art Degree at the time, introduced me to the art of bookbinding.  I loved it and combined this new-found skill with my love of fabric to create these very tactile, colourful notebooks.

Initially I made them for myself, until my daughter and friends suggested that they were so beautiful, they were sure people would buy them.  So to test the theory, at the beginning of 2014 I joined a local craft market group in Crystal Palace called Handmade Palace and sure enough people did want to buy them!

Handcrafted Notebooks was born - individually made notebooks, handmade from start to finish and covered in beautiful cotton fabrics.

Since then Handcrafted Notebooks has gone from strength to strength and I now sell regularly at markets in London and the south east and also online through my Etsy shop handcraftednotebooks.etsy.com   I try to ensure there are lots of different designs and colour schemes available to suit all tastes but am always happy to make whatever size, shape or colour the customer wants. They just need to ask what's possible.

After sitting in an office for most of my working life, I’m finally being creative, which is a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend my time, along with dog walking, my love of gardening and choral singing.
